The four travellers woke from a restless night of sleep to the dawn’s light breaking through the trees. After a light breakfast, Sterk carved two simple wooden signal whistles while the group chatted about what lies ahead for them.
Making their way out of the dense forest and up the lightly wooded hills, Sterk, Fura, and Víðarr found a narrow, rough cave entrance in the side of a vertical cliff of dark rock. Sterk’s claustrophobia got the best of him and he refused to step foot inside the cave, instead sitting watch outside.
Lighting a candle, Fura and Víðarr made their way through the tight cave, pushing on past a small chamber with some old animal bones and natural refuse. A short while later they could just make out a faint light ahead when a voice called out “who is there”?
Stepping into another small chamber, the two found themselves facing Fewakor, a small dwarf with unkempt hair and tattered clothes. Fewakor was nervous at first, but quickly showed what meager hospitality he could offer after Fura formally introduced herself and Víðarr followed suit.
After some discussion, the three made their way outside and talked further, including Sterk. They learned that Fewakor is young for a dwarf, no more than 200 years old or 7 creaks of the mountain in dwarf-time. He had been banished by his “fathers” some time ago for his drunkenness and made his way to the surface world. Fewakor told the three how he built himself a basic workshop high in the mountains where he hoped to perfect his craft, build a masterwork, and earn the right to return home. All of these hopes were dashed a few weeks ago when a giant spider covered in mirror-like plates on it’s abdomen snuck into the workshop and tried to devour Fewakor.
After much discussion, Fura swore to kill or drive off the spider and in return Fewakor swore to craft workshop tools for Sterk. Sterk piped up that he swears to use the tools to build Fura a magnificent longship and name it after Fewakor. With the formal swearing of oaths completed, the three met up with Griss and returned to Myrrtoft. Víðarr lied to Griss about what they had seen at the cave, but Griss seemed to be less than impressed by their story of a crazed bear attack ( Víðarr rolled untrained Falsehood with help from Fura and came up empty, 2 successes on Ob 8 )
The three made their way to the Vettring long-house, bringing along Griss for his promised meal. Over dinner Ævarr chided Fura for her adventurous spirit, imploring her to settle herself and focus on the more practical arts that she will need as a member of the nobility such as writing and etiquette. The conversation dies down not long after, the coming dinner with the Hugrung family the following evening filling the thoughts of all.
Sterk visited with his parents and confided in them about his confrontation with Asgeror and her veiled threats against him. While Kettil tried to make peace, Sigvaldi assured Sterk that if Asgeror attempts to bring any of them harm, she will be harshly dealt with.
